London Fashion Week: Fashion East SS14

London's  Fashion East  is a non-profit that nurtures and supports the work of up-and-coming fashion designers. Cool right?

So each season the mood at the Fashion East show during London Fashion Week is lighter, and there's also a certain level of excitement: this is new work from new designers, and graduates of Fashion East includes folks like
Marios Schwab and J.W.Anderson, so the work is always impressive.

This year, Ryan Lo, Claire Barrow, and Ashley Williams showed their collections to thrilling results. Perhaps most thrilling was the fact that Harry Styles was there, but that became less exciting when I discovered that he was 19.  Regardless, the collections were stunning. See below.

Ryan Lo

"The hills are alive with the positivity of the Ryan Lo girl, whose head is filled with make-believe picnics, dainty lunches of finger sandwiches, sugar and spice and all things nice."

Claire Barrow

"Fueled by magic and the otherwordly, the gang dress in silk, leather and cotton drill; casual shapes that have the feeling of eveningwear contrasted with raw-edge detailing."

Ashley Williams

" ...In true homeage to Stateside beach culture, denim, neoprene, and toweling in classic shapes are re-worked with clever pleating and embroidered lace. "Lady Lilo" and "Dream Boat" prints feature on crepe silk satin, leather and swimwear..."

London Fashion Week: Nasir Mazhar SS14

It's amazing how fun fashion can be once everyone stops trying to be so cool

Nasir Mazhar's SS14 collection was a perfect example of that. In typical Nasir style, real girls (with real bodies!) showed off the collection, which was a mixed bag of all things bright, patterned, figure-revealing, fringe, and again, fun. There was even twerking involved.

London Fashion Week: Margaret Howell SS14

I'm a tomboy at heart with a perpetual crush on classic, tailored classic pieces so London's Margaret Howell has always been one of my faves.

Her SS14 show, which took place yesterday during London Fashion Week in Margaret's flagship store, didn't disappoint. Classic stripes were paired with perfect summer plaids, neutral linens, and even polka dots. Straw fedoras topped off the looks.

It may have just  started to get cold, but this collection already has me pining for summer.

Good Reads

It's been a long  week, and I'm so looking forward to some (fingers crossed) picnicking and general relaxing.  Here are some things you may have missed from the week:

I just learned about Skillcrush, a site targeted at women with the goal of making computer programming and coding easier to understand and accessible to more people. You can sign-up for their e-mail newsletters (I did!) or take a class. Obsessed.

An interview with Laura from Van-Leeuwen. Oh, how I miss their ice cream!

And speaking of interviews, here's Refinery29's interview with Greta Gerwig last week. I love  her.

51 animal photos that are worth it.

I've just started writing for SHK Magazine!

And speaking of, I covered the London menswear collections earlier this week for Capsule Trade Show's industry blog, We Are The Market.  Here's what I wrote.

Have a grrreat weekend!

London Collections: Men

Spencer Hart at London Collections: Men. Yes, I'm a few rows back but so what?

The more important thing to note here is that somewhere between me and this model was Cousin Matthew of Downton fame. I saw him real, real good.

Here's a few other things I've liked so far.
